You Still Need Traditional Software Development Teams
There's a growing belief that because AI exists, we no longer need traditional software development teams. This is a bubble — and it will burst soon.
Yes, AI can help anyone quickly build simple, personal tools that they wanted to build for a long time but didn't have enough technical knowledge to do so. But when it comes to complex business requirements, highly experienced software development teams are still essential.
I often use this example:
Having an AI-powered surgical tool doesn't mean you can perform surgery without being a surgeon. You still need the knowledge and expertise to guide the tool effectively.
Large-scale software systems still need experienced engineers, architects, designers, testers, DevOps, security experts, and domain specialists working together to build systems that are scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable. For experts, AI tools can massively increase their productivity.
Until AI becomes capable of building large, complex, and efficient systems from plain English instructions (my prediction is around 2030), experienced software development teams will remain critical for building serious software systems.
